Grandpa, the babysitter extrordinaire
Lyla is one month old already - we can't believe it! She has grown a lot, which makes me really happy. She feels sturdy and healthy, and our doctor said everything looks good so far.
She weighs 9 lb 14 oz already, and is 23 inches long!
Her new favorite playtime activity is to look at herself in the mirror. She's also really good at lifting her head up and turning it from side to side.
I'm not sure Jared always shares my sentiments, but I'm quite fond of his employer. Not only do they send me flowers every year on my birthday, look what just arrived in the mail for Lyla!
For Mother's Day, we took Lyla to meet her namesake, my grandma Lyla June Lombard. She is a beautiful, joyful, and selfless woman who is truly loved by everyone in our family and her community. She was overjoyed to meet little Lyla!
My grandpa didn't think she was so bad either :)
I finally got a good picture of Lyla smiling! She was quite content to be held by her great grandma for most of the weekend.
It was amazing to have four generations together. I'm so thankful to have so much family close by, and I think I'm just starting to comprehend what a rich and beautiful thing a family can be.
Last week, Lyla's umbilical cord fell off so we made the leap into using cloth diapers. Suddenly, it seemed she outgrew all of her newborn sized clothes, because of the size of her bum! But I think it's true what they say, the puffy cloth diapered bottom is much cuter than one wrapped in a disposable.
I used to hate it when people called their babies angels. Babies are NOT angels. Children are born sinful, right? But that was before I got to see this precious girl sleeping every day :)
All bundled up to brave the foggy SF spring.
Lyla's social calendar calmed down a bit during her second week of life, but we still had a great time introducing her to people and going on little outings.
Turns out Jared really likes carrying her in the kangaroo sling - although at one point he said, "Is this what it's like to be pregnant? I'm getting tired!" Oh sweet husband, you have no idea :) Here he is showing her off at church on her one week birthday.

We are so fortunate and thankful that Lyla will have so many friends close to her in age. Our new friends the Fischers also have a daughter, just a few weeks older. Paige, Greg and Cate came over to visit, and Paige also helped me figure out how to use my moby wrap!
Here we are, all wrapped up, ready to go on our first mother daughter shopping trip :)
Amy and Shea came to visit and brought us some cute girly clothes too!
Here's another shot of the funny smiles Lyla makes when she's drifting off to sleep. I can't believe how many different facial expressions she has!
Our next set of visitors was Jared's Aunt Paula and Granddad, who live in the east bay.
Paula brought us a great swimsuit and sun hat set for Lyla. Apparently in Walnut Creek it's actually sunny in the summertime. Here she is modeling the sun hat :)
We also had a visit from my Aunt Karen. She came all the way from Sutter Creek to meet Lyla, and brought us a lovely geranium to commemorate the occasion too.
Karen just held Lyla for close to three hours! Lyla was so relaxed in her arms and on her lap.
Lindsay and Hailey came to meet Lyla, and Hailey was so excited. She kept saying, Baby! Baby! and pointing to her.
We also took Lyla to community group for the first time. Grace wasn't so sure about holding her, but Jared plopped her right down in her lap! After that, Lyla slept for most of the meeting.
Two weeks have gone by so quickly, but it also seems long at times (mostly in the middle of the night while I'm trying to keep Lyla and myself awake for feeding time!). Everyone keeps telling us to savor every moment, and that kids grow up so fast. I'm starting to understand what that means. What an adventure, a challenge, and a blessing!
