Way back in September, I booked a few days away for Jared and me, both to celebrate our birthdays and to have a last little getaway before our baby comes, in less than two months now!
We drove up to Mendocino on Sunday afternoon and got a bit lost in the pouring rain. I was worried the rain would last the whole trip (although snuggling up inside by the fireplace isn't all bad!) but we woke up to beautiful sunshine and blue skies the next morning.
We walked out to the coast from our bed and breakfast, and walked along it into the cute town of Mendocino. We saw such beautiful scenery and had a really relaxing time. Here we are near the cove that we could see from our bedroom window:

Jared kept saying, "Be careful! Don't get too close to the edge!" It was pretty cute - he's never been that protective of me before.

Here we are in front of Point Cabrillo Lighthouse. The lens was operating and was really pretty, but unfortunately we couldn't go upstairs to check it out more closely.

My friend Debbie and I both had our birthdays last week, and we are both expecting babies the first week of April! So we had fun taking a few belly shots together.

We had a birthday party for Paul, Jared, Debbie, and me for our nearly coinciding birthdays. Here we are all trying to blow out our own candle!

And if that wasn't enough, Jared surprised me with another cake in the middle of the Super Bowl Party we went to!

Yesterday Jared and our friend Randy put in a full day of work on the baby box, and we're proud to say it's all done! Jared says he's ready for the baby to come now :)
Here's Randy helping to install the last of the shelves on the outside wall.

Here are the shelves on the inside. To the left is the finished crib railing.

There is a lot of the storage space under the crib. We're hoping the stroller will fit underneath.

Here's what the crib area looks like with the railing slid all the way down.

The finished product! I'm so thankful for my handy husband, who has made our little home livable for a couple more years. He did a great job!

I'm really starting to look obviously pregnant. People are offering me their seats on the bus, and others have given me astounded looks when I tell them that I still have at least 2 1/2 months to go!
Here I am at 24 weeks:

This picture is funny because you can really see my scoliosis. I haven't had too much back pain yet, but when I do it's always on the same side where I have the worst curve in my spine.

Here I am at 26 weeks, enjoying the crazy 70 degree sunny winter we're having here in San Francisco. My apologies to everyone in the Midwest :)

And this is about what I look like now, at 28 weeks.

And for a bonus photo, here's Jared trying out a baby bib I knit this weekend. At least I know the neck strap is stretchy enough!

We had a great Christmas this year seeing all of our family. We did tons of traveling, which was great because we probably won't be doing much once the baby's born!
We started with Jared's dad's family. Here are all my sisters together: Malinda, Jenn, and Katie!

Katie's very excited to be an Auntie. I just love this picture!

Katie and I got to see the SF Ballet perform the Nutcracker on Christmas Eve. We loved it!

That night we drove to Mariposa to see my family. Jacob was jealous of my belly.

Our favorite baby present were these adorable Carhartt overalls that my dad bought.

After that, it was back to the bay area to celebrate with Jared's mom. I hope Jenn liked the scarf I made her. :)

Finally, we flew up to Idaho to spend New Year's with Jared's grandparents and cousins. It was beautiful weather and we had a great relaxing time.

Thanks Melinda! :)
My belly is growing. I think the three Thanksgiving dinners helped.
Here I am at 22 weeks along.

The baby is kicking like crazy now. I actually saw my belly moving as it kicked the other day. That was really exciting! There really is a little person in there!

The baby box is coming along too. Here is the nearly finished side wall with the installed fold-down changing table.

Jared's been working on the baby box nearly every day. Here are a few update photos.
Cutting outside (much better than in the living room):

Here's what the corner looked like originally:

You can see the little closet on the left hand side right inside the door.

Jared's idea was to have a nice rounded corner on the outside. After one trial run, lots of practice, soaking the board and using a winch, we succeeded.

Ta Dah!
Here's the view from the inside corner (as if you're lying in the crib):

We had our ultrasound yesterday. It was really reassuring to actually see the baby's heart beating and see the little legs and arms moving around.
Yesterday morning, I *thought* I felt the first movement of the baby. When we saw the ultrasound, its' little feet were right where I had felt it earlier! So that was really cool too.
The ultrasound technician was super nice and talkative. She kept saying, "Oh, so cute!" and "Look at the cute little feet!" and things like that, even though I'm sure she's seen a million babies in her lifetime. We were thankful for her excitement and encouragement.
So here's the cute little foot:

Here's what I think is the front view. You can see different organs inside. It was amazing all the things they checked - the brain, the four chambers of the heart, the kidneys, the stomach, the blood flow in the umbilical cord, size of the bones, etc.

Here is a nice view of the spine:

And here's the side view that looks most like a baby:

We love you and we can't wait to meet you soon, Baby!
I've been having an irresistable desire to sew lately. Of course, there's always my knitting fetish too, but there's something to the nearly instant gratification of sewing.
I found a wonderful local fabric shop last weekend, and stocked up on some cute fabric for making baby things.
I love these little sock monkeys:

I also found this cute apple fabric in three different colors. An obvious choice for bibs!

Finally, I borrowed this body pillow from a friend (which has made forcing myself to sleep on my side a lot easier - but I still can't wait to sleep on my stomach again!) but I thought it needed a new pillowcase. Good thing I bought a coordinating fabric because I used up the entire bolt of the floral one!
